CO2, commonly known as carbon dioxide is a chemical compound consisting of a carbon atom and two of oxygen. This is a gas exhaled by humans which is also accepted by plants. With a number of utilities provided that go from the effervescence in carbonated beverages to isolate oxygen from the fuel extinguishers in case of fire, CO2 can also be used in pistols and revolvers in order to replace the compressed atmospheric air.

These CO2 pistols and revolvers use carbon dioxide as a pressure source due to their unique properties. Once inside the pressure vessel, some of the CO2 passes into the liquid state, leaving the container with both gas and liquid.

When the shooter pulls the trigger it opens a valve within the cylinder which leaves some of the gas passing down the barrel. This sudden pressure drop is explosive and causes the projectile to be fired by the barrel with great speed. Almost instantly some of the liquid goes through the same process to replace the gas already released, thus preparing the cylinder for the next shot.

The great advantages of this type of mechanism are its  high accuracy, weapon’s ease on arming it, the lack of recoil that makes the shooting even more precise, consistency in shot-to-shot basis and the convenience on repetitive firing (semi-automatic) in which the gun or CO2 gun fires as fast as your ability to pull the trigger.
